Performing and Media Arts

Hira Mahmood is a Ph.D. student in Performing and Media Arts. Her research examines art objects in film, such as painting, sculpture, textiles, and how to intertextually read objects placed within the cinema screen. Hira holds a B.A. in English Literature from Georgia State University, M.A. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Georgia State University, and M.A. in Cultural Studies from the University of California, Davis. Outside of academia, Hira enjoys all things DIY: zines, cassette tapes, art exhibitions, and ephemeral media. She runs a DIY tape label called Ecology Records, is a lover of cinema from noir to B-films, and enjoys cooking and baking. She is passionate about how knowledge is produced not only in the classroom but also through experiential forms of learning. Hira is eager to share meals, experiences, and ideas with Flora Rose members and to foster the thriving community that is the Flora Rose House.
