Julia Felippe is a professor of medicine at the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. Her academic appointment includes large animal clinical care and DVM-student/resident training in internal medicine at the Cornell University Hospital for Animals; teaching in the DVM graduate and undergraduate curricula; and a research program in the field of immunology. Her laboratory studies immune competence of the newborn and response to vaccinations, and common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) in horses, a fatal, non-familial, late-onset condition that leads to impaired antibody production and recurrent infections. Professor Felippe was born and raised in Brazil; she is a first generation higher education graduate in her family, and came to the U.S. to pursue advanced training in veterinary medicine. She loves all things nature - horseback riding, camping and canoeing, and going on adventures with her family.
