Anthropology

Karina Beras is a doctoral student in the department of Anthropology. Her research focuses on the effects of statelessness and antiBlackness in the Dominican Republic with specific attention to the experiences of Dominicans of Haitian descent and their interactions with the state. She holds a BA in Hotel Administration from Cornell University (Go Big Red!) and a MA in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). Before returning to the Hill, she spent some time working at Swarthmore College and Barnard College and is really excited about connecting with undergraduate students once again.

Outside of the classroom, Karina is an active member of Ithaca Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and serves on the Equity Advisory Board for Ithaca Murals. She enjoys cooking and dining with friends, biking by the lake, running (the medals and the camaraderie make it worthwhile), and watching Grey’s Anatomy (it is a tradition that started her first-year of college as a resident in Balch Hall). Karina is excited to return to her role as a GRF after time away conducting research and looks forward to learning and growing with the Flora Rose community.
